The Wilderness Society is fighting to keep the Australian wilderness WILD.
Since 1976 the society and it's supporters have saved millions of hectares of magnificent
wild country and the lives of numerous endangered species. It's members have helped
to protect areas throughout Australia by influencing decision makers within
government, industry and the community. There are many ways you can help support
The Wilderness Society...
- Become a member! Go to your nearest Wilderness Society branch or shop for details
on how to join.
- Volunteer for an hour at your nearest Wilderness Society branch or shop. You could
do some postering for them, or computer work...every little bit helps! I work at TWS in
Launceston for an hour or so a week, just doing little things, it's really fun!!
- Purchase products from a Wilderness Society shop.
- Buy recycled or recyclable products...and start recycling paper, cardboard etc.
- Get involved in protests, consumer boycott campaigns etc.

Boycott Boral
"Boral now have access to 85% of the hardwood forests which taxpayers own and they
are the worst employers as far as wages and conditions are concerned in NSW." -Gavin
Hillier.
Boral logs native forest for woodchips in New South Wales and Tasmania, making it the
second largest exporter of native forest woodchips in Australia. It has a plantation estate
which could be used instead of logging these forests, but instead it exports as much as
947 000 tonnes of native forests in Tasmania and 288 000 tonnes in New South Wales. It has
been consistently shown that Australians oppose the wood chipping industry in opinion polls, but still
governments, and woodchipping companies around the country ignore the people's opinion.
The people now have to take action, by ceasing to buy Boral products. If you are unsure which
products are produced by Boral then contact The Wilderness Society for information. Also, send a
letter to the managing director of Boral, stating your opinion of woodchipping companies...write to:
Mr Tony Berg,
Managing Director,
Boral,

Boycott all use of the Mt McCall Track
The Mt McCall 4WD track is a track that goes through otherwise 'untouched'
wilderness in Tasmania. While climbing Frenchmans' Cap I was able to see it. It
was an ugly mark amongst some very beautiful wilderness. It had been decided
some years ago that this track would be closed...but, unfortunately, there has been
a serious suggestion that it should be kept open, purely for the benefit of a few
commercial companies who use it. One of these is a company called 'Peregrine
Adventures', who insist that the track must be kept open, otherwise they believe
they will lose a huge amount of money. They do not consider the track to be an
environmental issue, and worry only about the money. Please write to the company, and
tell them that you are not happy about their part in overturning the World Heritage
Management Plan (to close the track). Their address is:
Rob McNaught,
Managing Director
Peregrine Adventures
258 Lonsdale Street
Melbourne, 3000
If you are considering taking part in any adventure programs in Tasmania, then it is
advised that you do not use 'Peregrine Adventures', and instead use 'World
Expeditions', who do not use the Mt McCall 4WD track. By doing this you will
be showing your support for the long term protection of the Franklin River.
