Manufacturer: Furuta (confectionery) / Kaiyodo (Toy figure) Release Date: September 1999 Notes: This was the first series of Choco Eggs released. It included 24 figures of animals, birds, insects and marine animals that are found in and around Japan. The figures were all designed by Matsumura Shinobu of Kaiyodo, who has since become something of a national celebrity in Japan for his toy figure designs. The earliest releases apparently had one piece of paper inserted, with the figure details and assembly instructions on one side and the series list on the other side. Later the two were separated, so that each capsule contained two pieces of paper. In 2001 the early series Choco Eggs were re-released in Hong Kong, and these re-releases had only one piece of paper again. Many Japanese collectors cited this as evidence that the Hong Kong Choco Eggs were distinct from the original Japanese ones, whereas in fact they are probably exactly the same, except for the paper difference which was nevertheless how they were initially released in Japan. Suffice it to say that the Hong Kong Choco Eggs are not fakes. |
