Malcolm Burbury surmises that Mary Ann (who died and was buried a month later) was near her deathbed and -- realising that the children hadn't been baptised yet -- sent them off with someone else, perhaps their aunt Elizabeth (nee KENCH, wife of her brother-in-law William) and Elizabeth was mistakenly entered into the register as the mother. S586
