Probably killed at the battle of Flers-Courcelette, where the 10th Battalion of the Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment was fighting on the 15th September 1916. Stephen was part of C Company, and records show that they were in the second wave of the attack on the right of the 41st Division. Stephen was probably killed by artillery fire which poundd the Allied trenches on the 17th. S509  S538  S626
