John spent his entire life on the home place, herding the sheep and helping with the many duties of running the ranch. He passed away in 1937 from blood poisoning in his hand caused from a sliver.
He was a member of the Grange, Woodman of the World, and IOOF Lodges. He didn't care to ride horseback or drive a car but was regularly seen walking to town on Saturday afternoon to attend lodge meetings. He made the coffee when dances were given and he enjoyed playing cards. He would walk 2-3 miles 2-3 times a week to play cards at the Marshall Jones place. S228
