MIDLANDS FIGURE DIES
ONE of the most prominent and well-known figures in the Midlands, Mr. Fred Burbury, of Hilly Park, Parattah, died in the Campbell Town Hospital yesterday morning.
He was in his 95th year.
Mr. Burbury, who was a son of the late William and Christina Burbury, of Inglewood, near Andover, was born at Inglewood and lived all his life in the district.
He came from a long-established pastoral family of the lower Midlands, and was associated with the land and with stock all his life.
For many years he was managing director of Burbury Bros., who owned large estates in several districts of the lower Midlands.
== Corriedale Stud ==
He established a Corriedale sheep stud farm at Hilly Park, parattah, which was one of the first Corriedale studs to be established in Tasmania.
Mr. Burbury possessed a thorough knowledge of all stock, and his advice was keenly sought after by sheep men throughout the Midlands and other aprts of the state.
He played a big part in the public life of the lower Midlands, having been a member of the original Oatlands Council when municipalities were set up under the Local Government Act in 1906.
Mr. Burbury was a member of the Oatlands Road Trust before that time.
== In Parliament ==
He was a member of the House of Assembly at one time.
Mr. Burbury was a life member of the Tasmanian Farmers, Stockowners' and Orchardists' Association, of which he was one of the founders.
At one time he was president of the Royal Agricultural Society.
He was a justice of the peace in the Oatlands district for about 50 years.
Mr. Burbury had an outstanding record in the life of the Presbyterian Church, having been a lay preacher for more than 70 years and an elder for more than 60 years.
He conducted church services till he was almost 90 years of age.
Mr. Burbury leaves one daughter, Miss E. I. Burbury, of Hilly Park, and one son, Mr. Vernon Burbury, of Lemont.
He will be buried in the Oatlands Presbyterian cemetery tomorrow afternoon.

Geoffrey Charles BURBURY (1903-1964)
Grazier dies, aged 60, at Jericho
A well-known grazier, Mr. Geoffrey Charles Burbury, of Bowsden, Jericho, died suddenly at his home early yesterday, aged 60.
Mr. Burbury had built up a fine breed of Polwarth sheep on his Bowsden estate.
In his younger days he played cricket and football and in the past 20 years was a prominent golfer, having represented the Oatlands team in many games.
He was educated at Hutchins School, Hobart.
The late Mr. Burbury married Dr. Barbara Stenhouse, of Devonport.
He is survived by his widow, one son (Charles), and three daughters, Mary, Jean, and Frances.
After a service in St. Peter's Anglican Church at Oatlands at 3 p.m. today the burial service will take place in the Oatlands Presbyterian cemetery.

Gerald BURBURY (1873-1934)
MR. GERALD BURBURY
WELL-KNOWN MIDLANDS PASTORALIST.
The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Gerald Burbury, of Inglewood, Andover, a well-known pastoralist, prominent for many years in Midlands affairs.
Mr Burbury was the seventh son of the late Mr. William Burbury, of Inglewood, and was educated at Horton College Ross, under the late Mr. W. W. Fox, being the last one to qualify for the Horton scholarship. For some years he was council clerk of the Oatlands Municipality, then became one of the principals of Burbury Bros., the well-known Midlands pastoralists. Mr. Burbury was a member of the Oatlands Municipal Council for a considerable time, only relinquishing his position on account of ill-health. He was an expert manager and judge of stock.
He married Miss Minnie Brain, a daughter of the late Mr. William Brain, of Richmond, and a sister of the Hobart Town Clerk (Mr. W. A. Brain).
He leaves a widow and four sons, Max, William, Roger, and David. His only daughter died about a year ago.
The funeral will arrive at the Presbyterian Church, Oatlands, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, and will afterwards proceed to the Presbyterian Cemetery.

Henry BURBURY (1838-1930)
MR. HENRY BURBURY
PIONEER OF THE MIDLANDS
The death occurred at his residence, Greenway Avenue, New Town, yesterday, of Mr. Henry Burbury, in his 93rd year.
Oldest surviving son of the late Mr. Thomas Burbury, who came to Tasmania from Warwickshire about 100 years ago and settled on the Inglewood estate at Oatlands, Mr. Henry Burbury was born at Oatlands in 1838, and spent nearly the whole of his life in the Midlands. He acquired the Nugent estate at Richmond, and was recognised widely as a very practical man with stock, and a thorough judge of the pure Herd. With the exception of Mr. Thomas Tabart he was the oldest surviving native of the Midlands. Mr. Burbury had been an invalid for the past few years, but he retained full possession of his faculties and took a keen interest in political affairs.
Mr. Burbury's grandfather, Captain William Burbury, was a member of the Duke of Wellington's staff at the Battle of Waterloo, and was later commanding officer of the Horse Guards in London, and one of his uncles was killed by the first shot fired at Jemappes on the day before Waterloo.
Mrs. Burbury, a daughter of the late Rev. W. R. Wade, who was well known in scholastic circles in Hobart, died about 20 years ago. One son, Mr. Frank Burbury, is living at Geeveston, but the other members of the large family are in other states. The funeral will take place on Thursday morning, interment being at Richmond.

John Vaughan BURBURY (1903-1974)
Death of Midlands grazier
The death of a Midlands grazier and athlete, Mr John Vaughan Burbury, of Woodbury, occurred suddenly at Oatlands on Saturday.
Mr Burbury collapsed while playing golf.
Mr Burbury was born at Fonthill, near Andover, where his parents, the late Mr and Mrs Sydney Burbury, owned a grazing property.
Mr Burbury bought the Middle Park estate, at Antill Ponds, where he resided at the time of his death.
He was educated at Hutchins School, in Hobart.
After he finished school, he carried his sporting prowess into football, cricket and golf in the Midlands.
He also played football with Lefroy, in the TFL.
Mr Burbury leaves a wife, three sons and two daughters. The funeral will be at Oatlands this afternoon.
