Edward Pargeter Burbury

Edward Pargeter Burbury was born November 15th, 1854, in Bewdley, Worcestershire. He was educate at Grove House College, Clapham Common, and in Brussells. He arrived in New Zealand in 1873 and went as a cadet to Hamilton Station, Otago, which was owned by Messrs Hamilton and Rowley. He joined the Loan Company in Dunedin in 1878 and was sent to Wellington to open a branch of this company there. In 1879 he was sent as a manager to Oamaru and remained there until 1908.

He owned a property in the Oamaru district and a half-share of a run on the Waitaki with his father-in-law, Dr Waite. He was a good judge of stock and one of the best whips in New Zealand. When the Efficiency Board was formed, he was agricultural adviser for Canterbury, Westland and Nelson. He was interested in sport and was judge to the North Otago Jockey Club for many years.

He died in December 1924 and was survived by his wife and two daughters who live at Havelock North.
